And for those of you who are not
familiar, Baltimore County is located
in Baltimore, Maryland, and it is a
cute little suburb located just 30
minutes away from Baltimore City.
I'm your host and your favorite marketing
project manager, girly turned, unofficial,
Baltimore County correspondent.
And on this episode, we're talking library
staffing, chaos, keybridge collapse
findings, and of course a few things
you can get into around the county.
So let's get into this episode
of Baltimore County Unfiltered.
First up, the Baltimore County
Public Library because, whew, the
operations were not operating.
According to reporting from the Baltimore
banner, 14 part-time librarians were laid
off and then rehired just two days later.
So pause.
As a project manager, you already
know this is not a workflow.
This is a fire drill.
Staff described the whole
thing as confusing and painful.
The union called the treatment
dehumanizing, and in the middle of all
this, the library's HDR director stepped
down, which added even more chaos.
So for context, the Baltimore
County Public Library has 19
branches, 500 plus employees,
and a $51 million annual budget.
So when leadership makes sudden
staffing decisions, it doesn't
just impact the schedules.
It impacts programs, services,
and community trusts.
So bottom line
this isn't just about layoffs.
This was a communication breakdown and
a reminder that even public institutions
need to ensure that they have better
people, processes, and tools to
ensure that everything runs smoothly.
Okay, next up, the Keybridge collapse,
even though it physically happened
in the city, Baltimore County is
definitely feeling the ripple effects.
According to the Baltimore banner's
breakdown of the latest NTSB findings,
the cargo ship Dali lost power multiple
times before hitting the bridge.
Why you might ask one single loose
electrical signal wire, one tiny wire
led to a multi-billion dollar disaster,
six construction workers who never made
it to their home, the peer protection
was also outdated, and it wasn't built
for ships of this size, which made
the collapse even more catastrophic.
And here's where the county comes in.
We've all seen it.
There's more traffic on 6 95 more
congestion on 8 95, longer commute
times, and a bigger impact on
businesses and shipping routes.
so yes, the collapse happened in Baltimore
City, but the county is absolutely part
of the aftermath, and we're all navigating
the operational fallout every day.
Also, the reports are stating that the
timeline for completion of this keybridge
is gonna take longer than anticipated.
So I would say pack your patients
and your friendly driving tactics,
because it's gonna be a long
time before we see any relief.
Okay.
On a lighter note, let's shift gears
to something that's more festive,
let's talk about the holidays and
things to do in Baltimore County.
The holiday parade is happening
at the avenue in White Marsh.
It's happening December 6th.
There's gonna be floats music lights.
It's a perfect family outing,
and it's a perfect official
kickoff to the holiday season.
Be sure to follow them on social
media because we all know Baltimore
weather is very indecisive,
so be on the lookout for that.

Company Train Garden, that is a mouthful.

It's a Baltimore County Classic, and
it's officially open for the season
hours are as follows, Thursday and
Friday from three to 8:00 PM Saturday and
Sunday from 12 to 8:00 PM Admission is
free, but donations help to support the
volunteer firefighters, and of course,
it's nostalgic, it's cozy, and it's
one of those simple joys that makes the
Baltimore County living feel like home.
